Put Your Body in Good Hands…

Sports Soft Tissue Therapist

Janice is a Soft Tissue Therapist specialised in the treatment of sports injuries. I wanted to bring together my passion and interest in sports to my work as a soft tissue therapist to help individuals and teams progress from being able to perform normal daily physical functions to sporting and highly skilled activities.

Soft Tissue Therapy is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments. It is not only applicable for sports people but for everyone as it helps in prevention and recovery from soft tissue injuries.

Sports Massage Services

Sports soft tissue massage is not only beneficial to those undertaking sports it is also important for everyone in prevention and recovery from soft tissue injuries.

I can therefore provide advice and treatment, assessment and assistance for posture imbalances, soft tissue massage for prevention or rehabilitation following soft tissue injuries.

Pre-Competition Strapping & Kinesio Taping for Sport

The principle behind pre-competition strapping is that the tape should provide support to a weakened part of the body, without limiting its function, by preventing movements which stress the weakened area.

Kinesio taping for sport works on a slightly different principle as it not only provides support to joints and muscles without restricting range of motion but in addition it interacts with the pain receptors, blood and lymph vessels.

Dry Needling & Medical Acupuncture

Dry needling uses a solid, flexible filiform needle which is inserted into the skin to release trigger points which are characterised by pain and present as nodules or tight bands within a muscle. It also assists in healing due to its local soft tissue effects and pain relief which essentially occurs at four levels; local, spinal, brain stem and higher centre.

Western medical acupuncture is a therapeutic modality involving the insertion of fine needles; it is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the principles of evidence based medicine.

It acts mainly by stimulating the nervous system, and can be used to treat musculoskeletal pain, including myofascial trigger point pain which it does by activating natural pain killing chemicals in the body. It can also restore the flow of ‘life energy’ or ‘qi’ which runs through the body in channels or ‘meridians’. By restoring the normal energy flow, it is said that the natural healing ability of the body is increased.
